Having it been our first time there, it took us quite awhile to locate the place as it was also pretty hard to spot since the place appeared very discrete along the row of shops it was located at. Once you arrive, do not the let the simple exterior appearance of the restaurant fool you. Once you step into the two golden doors, you will find that the the interior of the place is nicely decorated with very detailed Thai-themed ornaments as well as providing its customers with a warm and welcoming ambience.
Seeing that we arrived there before 7 PM, the place was still relatively empty with only 2 tables being occupied. However, the crowd gradually picked up after that, thus it would be best for those who are interested in visiting this place to make a reservation beforehand as the number of tables available aren't that many (~10 tables). Upon arriving, we were greeted by the very-friendly Mr. Anan (one of the owners of Erawan), who had taken his time to slowly go through the items on the menu with us, knowing that it was our first time there as well as recommending to us some of the dishes from their special menu for that day. We finally decided to order one appetizer and 3 main dishes.
Sayur Paku Salad - RM 38
The first thing we ordered from the Appetizer Menu was actually a type of fern known as 'Paku' in Malay. This dish consisted of fairly large succulent prawns and minced chicken, cooked in spicy sauce (belacan) and finally garnished with crispy fried shallots. The portion for this dish would have been enough to feed even three people and was more than enough for the two of us.
Seafood Tom Yum (Clear Soup) - RM 38
Erawan provides a wide selection of Tom Yum soups consisting of either the clear soup or the thick soup made using coconut milk (santan). Not only that, customers are also given a choice to select the level of spiciness they prefer ranging from Level 1 (less spicy) to Level 3 (spiciest). We decided to go for Level 2 to be safe and the level of spiciness was tolerable enough for us.
The portion of this dish may appear to be small at first, but you might be surprised to discover how generous the chef with the amount ingredients that can be found in that small bowl.
Roasted Duck Green Curry (RM 38)
The duck used in this curry was one of the most tender duck meat I've ever tasted! Unlike most common curry dishes, the green curry at Erawan was not spicy at all (for me) but yet, it is capable of offering just enough taste to make you crave for more. Once again, there was a generous amount of ingredients in this dish.
Lemongrass Roasted Chicken (RM 38)
The last dish we ordered was the Lemongrass Roasted Chicken which was recommended from their special menu. Chili sauce was served alongside the chicken in a small glass. As compared to the other dishes above, this dish was nothing to shout about in terms of its taste despite being marinated with lemongrass. Having been roasted until golden brown, the meat was not as tender as the roasted duck meat in the green curry.
Overall, the dining experience at Erawan was worth the try for those who fancy good Thai cuisine and those who take visual pleasure in the way their food is presented. The customer service here should also be commended for, especially for Mr Anan, who constantly ensured that his customers were pleased with the food being served. Unfortunately, we had no space in our tummies to explore the various types of desserts
available here ( Glutinous rice with mango, homemade ice-cream, banana fritters with ice cream etc.).
